Are you an Avant-Gardener?
The seed for this design was planted last fall by my friend Giulietta. She's really into bringing together bands and farmers. She has "revolt" tattooed on both of her wrists. I made her a "Beet the System" t-shirt for her birthday, took off for India, and didn't think much of it for a few months. But as my return to New York loomed closer, I kept thinking about that shirt, and others that I might make when I got home. (This was in part due to the fact that I was asked to design a t-shirt for a South Indian conservation council while I was abroad.)

Both "Beet the System" and "Avant Gardener" were phrases that Giulietta brought with her to Brooklyn, from Georgia, so, really, this design (and the forthcoming "Beet the System" design) was the product of an intercontinental collaborative effort. You can get your Avant Gardener shirt from black sheep heap. I'll also be selling them at the Union Square Greenmarket in August.
